Can My Dog Eat Human Food? Safe & Unsafe Foods List

It’s tempting to share our snacks with our furry friends, but not all human foods are safe for dogs! Knowing what’s okay and what’s definitely off-limits can prevent a trip to the emergency vet.

Here’s a quick guide to some common human foods:

Safe (in moderation!):

  • Cooked Lean Meats: Chicken, turkey, beef (plain, no seasonings).
  • Certain Fruits: Apples (no seeds), bananas, blueberries, watermelon (no seeds/rind).
  • Certain Vegetables: Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes (cooked).
  • Plain Rice/Pasta: Cooked and unseasoned.

Unsafe (AVOID at all costs!):

  • Chocolate: Highly toxic, even small amounts can be dangerous.
  • Grapes & Raisins: Can cause kidney failure.
  • Onions & Garlic: Can damage red blood cells.
  • Xylitol (Artificial Sweetener): Found in sugar-free gum, peanut butter, etc. Extremely toxic.
  • Avocado: Contains Persin, toxic to dogs.
  • Alcohol: Self-explanatory!

Always research before sharing. When in doubt, stick to dog-specific treats!

What human foods do your pets love (that are safe, of course!)? Any scary experiences with unsafe foods?
