Welcome to Vesloo! Your Guide to Posting & Engaging 🐾

Dear Vesloo friends, old and new,

We’re thrilled to have you here. To make sure our shared space is organized, easy to navigate, and full of valuable content, we’ve set up a clear system for categories and tags. Learning how to use them correctly will make your experience—and everyone else’s—so much better!

This guide will walk you through:

  • Why categories and tags matter.
  • How to pick the right category for your post.
  • How to add the perfect tags to get your post seen.

Why Categories & Tags Are Your Best Friends

Think of our forum like a giant pet store, but instead of physical products, it’s packed with amazing discussions, photos, and advice! If everything was just thrown into one big pile, finding that specific tip on cat health or that hilarious dog video would be impossible.

That’s where categories and tags come in:

  1. Easy to Post: No more guessing where your brilliant idea goes. You’ll know exactly which “aisle” to put your topic in.
  2. Easy to Find: Fellow pet lovers can quickly filter content to find exactly what they’re looking for, whether it’s solutions for separation anxiety or reviews of the latest pet tech.
  3. A Tidy Community: When our content is well-organized, everyone benefits! It keeps Vesloo vibrant, useful, and feeling like home.

Step 1: Choosing Your Post’s “Home” - Categories

Categories are the main sections of our forum, the “big rooms” where your post will live. Pick the one that best describes the overall subject or purpose of your post.

Here are our 7 main categories:

  • 1. :paw_prints: Pet Life & Chat

    • What goes here: All the fun, casual, and general pet discussions. Share cute photos, hilarious videos, heartwarming stories about your furry, feathered, or scaled friends. This is also the place for general chatter about pet-friendly places, pet-related news, or just everyday discussions that don’t fit into a more specific, specialized category.
    • Examples: “My cat’s latest napping position!”, “Funniest thing my dog did today!”, “What’s your favorite pet-friendly cafe in Dublin?”
    • Tip: This is your go-to for lighthearted sharing and general discussions about your pet’s life!
  • 2. :stethoscope: Pet Health

    • What goes here: Discussions about your pet’s well-being, symptoms, common illnesses, veterinary visits, medications, and general health concerns. This category is for all pet types.
    • Examples: “Is this rash on my dog normal?”, “How to tell if your rabbit is sick?”, “Tips for administering medicine to a reluctant cat.”
    • Tip: If it’s about your pet’s physical health or sickness, post it here.
  • 3. :hamburger: Pet Nutrition

    • What goes here: Everything related to your pet’s diet, food brands, nutritional needs, supplements, feeding tips, and dealing with picky eaters or allergies. This category is for all pet types.
    • Examples: “Best senior dog food recommendations?”, “Has anyone tried raw feeding for their cat?”, “My bird won’t eat its pellets, help!”
    • Tip: For anything food or diet-related, this is the place.
  • 4. :shopping_bags: Product Reviews & Recommendations

    • What goes here: Your honest reviews of pet products, gear, food, toys, or services. Ask for buying advice, share great deals, or talk about what works (or doesn’t!) for your pet.
    • Examples: “Review of the latest smart feeder for cats,” “Looking for a durable chew toy for my super chewer dog,” “Where to find the best deals on pet insurance?”
    • Tip: This is your hub for all things shopping and services!
  • 5. :service_dog: Training & Behavior

    • What goes here: Discussions about training techniques, behavior challenges, socialization, and understanding your pet’s actions. This category is for all pet types.
    • Examples: “Potty training tips for new puppies,” “How to stop a cat from scratching furniture?”, “Dealing with separation anxiety in dogs,” “Teaching my parrot new tricks.”
    • Tip: If you’re trying to teach your pet something new or solve a behavior problem, this is your category.
  • 6. :sparkling_heart: Missing/Stolen Animals Ireland

    • What goes here: Posts about pet adoption in Ireland, fostering opportunities, lost & found pet notices, animal welfare charity events, and community requests for help (like temporary pet sitting or sharing supplies).
    • Examples: “Lost dog in Dublin – please help!”, “Looking for a foster home for a rescued cat,” “Volunteer opportunities at local animal shelters.”
    • Tip: This category is for connecting on a deeper, more supportive level within our community.
  • 7. :hammer_and_wrench: New Members & Site Matters

    • What goes here: Announcements from the Vesloo team, forum rules, website tutorials (like this one!), and any questions or feedback you have about the forum itself. If you find a bug or have a suggestion, post it here!
    • Examples: “Welcome Guide for New Users,” “Upcoming Forum Maintenance,” “Suggestion: Add a dark mode feature.”
    • Tip: This is your direct line to the admin team and where you’ll find all the important info about the site.

Step 2: Tagging Your Post - The “Detail Drawers”

While categories are your post’s main “room,” tags are the “detail drawers” within that room. They provide extra context and make your post incredibly easy to find by users looking for very specific topics.

Once you’ve chosen your category, make sure to add relevant tags to your post. You’ll see tag suggestions as you type, or you can manually add them.

Here are our main Tag Groups and how to use them:

  1. Pet Species: (Dog, Cat, Bird, Fish, Reptile, SmallPet, ExoticPet)

    • When to use: ALWAYS use this tag if your post is about a specific type of pet! This is crucial for filtering content.
    • Example: A health question about your parrot in “Pet Health” should have the Bird tag.
  2. Content Type: (Question, Discussion, Tips, Story, Photo, Video, News, Event, Guide, Experience, Poll, Request, NewMember, Announcement, Feedback, BugReport)

    • When to use: To describe the format or purpose of your post.
    • Example: If you’re asking for advice, use Question. If you’re sharing a personal story, use Story. If it’s a site announcement, use Announcement.
  3. Health & Care: (Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, Medication, Vaccination, Grooming, FirstAid, SpecialNeeds, Parasites)

    • When to use: In the “Pet Health” category, select tags that specify the health topic.
    • Example: Discussing flea prevention would use Parasites.
  4. Nutrition & Diet: (Diet, Ingredients, Supplements, FoodAllergies, WeightManagement, HomemadeFood, FeedingTips)

    • When to use: In the “Pet Nutrition” category, pick tags relevant to the diet topic.
    • Example: Asking about a raw diet would use Diet, HomemadeFood.
  5. Training & Behavior: (PuppyTraining, Obedience, LeashTraining, Socialization, Aggression, Anxiety, HouseTraining, PositiveReinforcement, BadHabits)

    • When to use: In the “Training & Behavior” category, use tags that specify the training or behavior issue.
    • Example: Discussing a dog’s barking issues would use Aggression or BadHabits.
  6. Product & Service Type: (Food, Treats, Toys, Beds, Collars, Apparel, Cleaning, SmartDevices, Veterinarian, Groomer, PetSitter, Insurance, AdoptionService)

    • When to use: In “Product Reviews & Recommendations” or “Adoption, Rescue & Mutual Help”, to specify the product or service being discussed.
    • Example: Reviewing a new cat bed would use Beds. Looking for a vet would use Veterinarian.
  7. Commerce & Deals: (Review, Recommendation, Deal, Discount, NewProduct, Used, ForSale, Wanted, Sponsor)

    • When to use: In “Product Reviews & Recommendations” or “Adoption, Rescue & Mutual Help”, to denote transaction-related content.
    • Example: Posting about a flash sale would use Deal, Discount.
  8. Local Ireland: (Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Belfast, IrelandLocal, Park, PetFriendly)

    • When to use: If your post’s content is specific to a location in Ireland or involves a local service/event, always add a relevant geographical tag! This helps local users immensely.
    • Example: A lost dog notice in Cork would use Cork.

Quick Posting Tips:

  • One post, one primary category: Your post lives in just one main category.
  • Tags are for specificity: Add all relevant tags that help describe your post’s details. The more relevant tags, the easier it is for others to find!
  • When in doubt, ask! If you’re truly unsure where to post, or have any questions about forum features, feel free to ask in the New Members & Site Matters category. We’re here to help!

Thank you for being a part of the Vesloo community. Let’s make this the best place for pet lovers in Ireland!
